If anyone prefers the look of a fluorescent bulb over an LED replacement, now might be the time to stock up on spares.
The UK Government has announced its schedule for the phasing-out of fluorescent lamps containing mercury. This follows a similar plan issued by the EU and arises from changes to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (RoHS).
In the UK, the phased changes will occur between 1st September 2023 and 1st February 2024. After these dates, all T5, T8 and compact fluorescent lamps will be banned from sale, however existing stocks from suppliers of these lamps will still be available until they are exhausted.
