I looked at some of his other listings for instance capacitors, it says pack 5 maybe that;s what he calls his lots? in anycase it's misleading one socket that costs pennies for 3 quid!

Send it back! :) The fault was his listing he should pay for the return too. A customer service agent will agree with you.
 
Message him and see if it was a genuine mistake and if he doesn't cooperate open a claim with eBay. They side with the buyer 99% of the time anyway so I don't see why they wouldn't refund you. Very misleading though I would of thought that was X10 as well
 
I have opened a refund claim stating I only got one instead of the listed ten items will report back when I hear anything.

Happens all the time. I bought qty 4 components at £28 each from a Chinese seller. Only sent 1, but as soon as I let them know they refunded the £84 no problem.

I have those but prefer using sockets where the traces are good
