So as a private seller you sell a machine (or anything) for say £2k and the buyer collects. Does ebay lose out on its 4% ?

Depends on how they pay I suppose, if it's cash then yes, you mark it as sold and away it goes.
Cash payment on ebay has not been allowed for a long time now
I guess the buyer protection wouldnt apply if picked up and cash paid on collection as no way for ebay to recover payment?
Waiting to see how long before they ditch this buyers fee sh*tshow .
It still seems to be an option when listing, although not completed just tested, just tried and even though its there as an option it still shows all payment options when listed.
I guess you could always put in the description cash on collection and you'll waive the buyer fees.

Yes, done a test option and its still available to choose as an option when listing, it just completely ignores it.
Just had a collection sale on a Buy it Now, they paid on purchase but I didn't get my money till they turned up to collect 2 weeks later with a collection code. I'm guessing they paid the new fee on top.
I listed a load of car parts and not had close to expected sales, with buyer now paying for shipping plus a buyers fee I guess I'll have to reevaluate. Used to be I'd sell for £20 including shipping and only see £12-14 , actually thought new system would be better as you get what you ask for, without the shipping cost lottery plus eBay's close to 20% cut of everythingI've not changed my prices yet in the hope that they do (as you know as soon as I edit every price they'll change it

Yep, exactly why they have made it digital payments only, if people were paying cash, ebay would never see their "buyers fee"
They need to make it clear to buyers though what the sellers price is and what eBay have added - currently it just looks like the seller has set a mental price

I don’t expect to use it for free as a seller. Would happily go back to the previous sellers fee system rather than this mess. At least there was some clarity,

Making best offer does show what the buyers fee is if you look at the breakdown.
Some of the other pages I've seen today do seem to point out the buyers fee that is included, it's an absolute mess though.
