My dmd clock has stopped working its not a colour one I think it’s one of paul’s first batch I had been crashing for some time now and been getting stuck on animations so I had a little tinker in the settings which has proved fatal lol it no longer works at all I think I may have erased all the files as it just display a full lit screen and now nothing on power on
If anyone has any advice please keep it simple as I may be good at fixing pinball but stuff like this is not my thing
Thanks chris

Mine’s been the same for a year or two.

I might have a look at it this week as it’d be good to get it running again.

Meant to put this up for a few months.
might as well put it up here rather than start a fresh thread

this is what happens to my clock at power on. It’s one of the original ones before Paul did a run. I have reflashed the memory card a few times, no different, in fact it does the same with or without the memory card plugged in..

Reseat all cables... Ribbon and power. Looks to me like the top board has no power feeding it... either that or there's a ribbon cable issue...

Also - If you havent already, the battery on the board WILL need changing!

Have reseated the cables a few time, will try the battery next, ta
Suggestion would be to take the card out, change the battery, reflash the card and shove it back in... then power up (in that order)... Let me know how it goes... more than happy to help where i can!

@Paul

Do you have a link to the latest card image please?

I’ve changed the battery today so am hopeful I can get it sorted.

It is running ok with the current card but I’ll soak test it tonight as it used to run for an hour or two before hanging.

I'd like the link to the latest image for the 2020 colour version - I'm getting no output either

2020 issues are usually an issue with a corrupt config file.
do NOT use the version above as they are completely different systems with different OS's

You should still be able to get into the Gui...

Boot the clock, and wait 5 mins.
Go to a PC on the same network
open FILE explorer (NOT internet explorer!)
In the bar at the top type in "//Rpi2dmd" (no quotes) and wait 30 secs to see if it comes up

If it does, set it as per this post : https://www.pinballinfo.com/communi...colour-2020-version.47089/page-12#post-394203

IMPORTANT - ONLY EDIT ONE CATEGORY AT A TIME AND SAVE BEFORE MOVING TO THE NEXT ONE!

If you have no output on the panel, i suspect the issue is either with the panel or the brightness settings.

Let me know how you get on!

@Paul

I followed Swinks' instructions but it doesnt play any animations now at all.

The image is only 19MB. I'm not convinced it has the animations on it as I'm sure I used a lot more space originally.

Thats fine, since it's an image file... I have used this image myself, and not had any problems.

What program did you use to Write the image on the card?

did you see the .pdf on the same page... Just wondering if it's an issue with the display type... (Apologies if i'm teaching you to suck eggs here!)....

I did follow the reflash .pdf.

It all worked except the clock didn’t auto on the first time I inserted the card. It did when I reseated it.

What do you mean by display type? Is there a menu function I need to enable?

The clock shows fine, just no animations.

I just tried a brand new 512 Gb card. The display went blank when I inserted it and stay off. When I took it out and recycled power the clock came back on.

512Gb deffo wont work. From memory it has to be 2Gb.... deffo no more than 4gb.... Was a limitation on the older boards...

Ahh, yes I remember something like that. It’s the only other one I have that I was saving for my MISTER build.

I also seem to have made the screen inverted now as well. It says display mode 1 instead of 0.

The instructions to hold button 3 on power on to cycle through the modes doesn’t seem to work!

That’s kind of you @Mfresh.

Despite having covid last month we’ve just started getting sore throats and fatigue again so are avoiding contact for the next week or so.

I’ll give you a shout after Christmas and pop over!

I dont have my old clock with me at the moment, however i could pick it up tomorrow and do some faultfinding with ya... Take an image of the card from a working clock (built from the same batch, so same panels etc)...

Let me see if i can order some 2Gb cards from amazon..

EDIT : Just found the original thread from 2016!!!! 5 Years ago!!

Upgrade instructions :

1. Reflash your SD-card using HDD Raw Copy.

2. Put your SD-card into the Run-DMD.

3. Does it work? Great, no need to do the rest of the steps below...

4. If it does not work after the SD-card upgrade, hold down button 3 on the Run-DMD while you plug it in to the wall socket. Release the button when the LED stays lit.

5. The Run-DMD will now cycle through a test image with different settings for the different HUB08 DMD:s. When you see the correct test image, press button 4 to save the settings.

6. Done!

Ok - getting SD cards is a pain - Looking to put together a "refresh" pack containing a battery and a newly flashed card... for a minimal fee

just to add, the info I keep on my site was about 2 years ago for a version that I got, and not newer versions.

The RunDMD guys were not good in keeping files up hence why I saved and made available for people.

One of the reasons the SD card corrupts is if the clock is operating and mid way through an animation and then say the power goes off, blackout etc it corrupts the SD card and then has to be reflashed so it can work again.

Hi Paul

I would very much like one of these... I never did manage to get mine working again (I use a Mac and don't have a pc for this task)
Happy to pay, it would be really nice to get the clock back up on the wall again
