Before all the EPC (energy performance certificate) madness I fitted a flat with a number of dimmer switches that worked very nicely with halogen light bulbs.

The main bulb types are ES/ES27 Edison Screw and G9 240v push ins.

I need to get a new EPC cert on it and low energy lights make quite a big difference to the rating.

Does anyone know of LED bulbs that are dimmable and actually last ? And also, dimmer switches that can cope with the associated LED power surge ?

I previously tried relatively expensive compact fluorescent bulbs that claimed to be dimmable and they had a shorter life than a prawn sandwich.

Simple solution is to remove the dimmers and just use regular LEDs but there might be something decent out there.

I am not after the fancy remote control LEDs.

Thanks

I’ve used these. It can be tricky matching lamp to dimmer with leds as t both have different characteristics.

These work really well and weren’t expensive.
Just be mindful of total load as there is a limit and also not enough load will mean it’s dimming range is reduced.

I have 10 on one dimmer and it works perfectly, However I have 4 on another with reduced range i.e mich shorter turn to dim the lights.

Hope this helps.

For the price (if you need a complete unit, had a few electrician friends mention that the unit is also sometimes the issue not just the bulbs) you can’t beat Enlite, the e5 is on sale due to the e8 being the newer slightly more powerful option.

You can get them in cool white, but warm white is my preferred and the link below.

Only ever use megamans. I probably install a couple thousand a year and can honestly say they are the best led out there, I have tried used various different alternatives but these are simply the best. I install along with JCC fittings and they work perfectly together.

And for dimmers varilight vpros!!
