Hi All,

I'm looking for a Dead/Broken PinLED DMD Display so I can harvest a few of the 16x16 segments from it to fix a couple of otherwise working displays that have the dreaded always lit column fault or dead dots.

These 16x16 segments were custom for PinLED and no longer available so your dead display will bring a few others to life.

Might also be interested in Stern DMD displays for the same purpose ...

Well I had one with 2 bad segments and contacted pinled and Andreas offered to exchange them free of charge if I sent the dud ones which I have done, just waiting on the new ones to arrive,

Ronnie

I've also got a line locked on a pinled display. but can't get hold of anybody at pinled

Same here, Emailed them a number of times but no one replied.

How did you contact them?

I contacted them through the website, exchanged lots of emails and got great swift replies, confirmed receiving the dud modules and told me he was posting out the new ones Tuesday past. Hope they come lol

Andreas email mailto:foerster@pinled.de

Hope you get a result guys

Ronnie

Lol he might get swamped with requests but he seems a decent guy if these segments are bad I'm sure he must send them back to the manufacturer

Had a reply yesterday and exchanged a couple of emails with him and have posted the dead matrix to him today.

Hopefully should get a replacement in a few weeks. :-)

Great news Dave, mine should arrive anytime now. he offered to sell them at 40 euro each or exchange for free so was a no brainer

Ronnie

€40 Wow!

A few ££ for the postage is a good investment then.

Glad the stern ones aren't that expensive, I've changed 6 in the last few weeks.

Mine arrived this morning I thought they looked like the one's I sent so I asked if he had repaired them but he said no they go back to manufactures for replacement and he sent me new one's, maybe just been sitting about, if they work okay will be a good result

Ronnie

I can't imagine that you can repair them.
but Dave (is this Dave Langley? hello if so) i thought you wanted the dud ones to harvest organs from, in order to fix some of them? it sounds like quite a few here (me included, i have one with a line stuck on) have a busted one but are making do, if you do manage to get some 16x16 blocks from somewhere, would you maybe try offering a fixing service for the rest of us - or is it just not worth it for the time involved?

i'd be willing to pay someone to fix mine, but not to scrap it for parts.

On mine it's a simple enough job the y are socketed so you can prise them out with a screwdriver

I hope he won't mind me saying but i have sent mine to luke for repairs. You can always ask him if he wants to do more repairs.

Indeed I have only sent the 16x16 grid to him and had assumed you were doing the same, hence the 'I can't imagine that you can repair them'.

Yes that's me!

Getting a dud display for parts was the initial plan as PinLED hand not answered my queries and I couldn't find the part elsewhere. However, now I have sent them my bad 16x16 grid, once I get a replacement it would be good to go.

This display was initially dead, I had to change 8 out of 16 column driver chips to get to this point.

Yes Dave that's correct, my point was the one's he sent did not look new and I wondered if he re worked them somehow which sounds daft I know! but I would have thought he would have loads of new one's?

I tried emailing through the pinled website last year to buy new 16x16 segments for my POTC but had no response.

OK, well we shall have to see when I get one back.

I just wonder how long it will be before another dot goes? I have the smaller dmd in my st25 I bought it brand new but after a few weeks a dot went but Andy replaced that.
