I was playing my Data East Star Wars yesterday and mid game the display started acting strangely. It displays the start up message for a couple of seconds, goes blank for 5 seconds, then displays the start up message and repeats. I can start a game and it plays normally, but no game screens are ever shown. Looks like it is in a reset loop.

Any ideas on where I should start looking?

Resetting like this on DE games is usually a voltage issue . If the 5v from the power board drops the game can reset as you describe …. display acts up, start up sounds loop.
The aging capacitor C2 is known fail point on that board, can leak and cause issues.

I’m the first instance I would measure voltages at the test points in the board. Wouldn’t hurt to reseat connectors also in case it’s just a poor connection.
