Data east flipper issue

I rebuilt the flippers on Robocop and not really happy with them, I bought the kits from Best of Pinball. When you cradle the ball you can see movement/play in the flipper.
The issue is play in the linkage to plunger. I did fit extra springs to take the slack up which stopped it but one snapped off so took them back off.
Is this normal or are the rebuild kits rubbish?

The “metal grommet” is a bushing that should be inside the plastic link and through which the pivot nut and bolt pass. Take the pivot bolt out and see what’s inside.

Ok thanks I don’t think one is in there which means it wasn’t in the kit, not sure I have the old stuff. That explains it then. Will have a look.
Should it have come in the new kit?

It would help to know which kit you bought. If the plunger link and pawl were preassembled then the bushes should be in there.

If you only bought plungers/links/end stops then the link may have fallen out when you disassembled the linkage.

Ok, was complete kit. The metal grommet is in there.
Had another play about and it looks like there is a lot of play in the flipper shaft going through the plastic piece that it sits in, that was in the kit as well I’m guessing as I can’t remember but it’s new. New flippers were also fitted.
A quick vid.

Think it’s the bushing and flipper shaft that is the issue, much more play than anything I have.
The play is causing a bit of weakness when the end of flipper is used as the most play is on the end.
Try some other bushes I guess. Was all fitted new.

I presume either they do this or the new parts are out, my first Data East so is what it is.
Went back to the extra spring idea and fitted the correct strength springs as not to interfere with the flipper strength or leave slack.
Works perfect, if they break again will have to make something up.

It has incorrect flipper brackets.
The play was in the bushing and linkage so the bracket is not causing the play. Plunger is pulled in fully and solid when operated.
When you say incorrect bracket what part is that? I know the actual plates are correct as the black one is cracked and was looking for a replacement but is solid so didn’t bother.
Hard to find an exploded view parts list on these☹️
They are working ok now but would be good to have it as it should be if there are wrong parts fitted as somebody had been bodging the flippers in the past.

Flipper base look different. I will check later today. Did have some spare ones.
Thanks👍

Robocop is non EOS so has the spring along the plunger the later EOS data east versions have the better spring outside, maybe they were converted?
Found a couple of pics
