If you have a small bit of playfield wear that needs filling in on a black area, is a permanent marker a viable way of filling it in?

You can but it tends to look purple on bare wood. Try using the kids stuff boot polish, the type that comes in a bottle with a sponge on it. Amazing for cabinet touch

I've used a Sharpie to fill in around inserts with no problems.
