Ok wanted to wait a few weeks before posting and reviewing my latest purchase, but thought now is a good time especially with all the talk of people bailing on the hobbit.
As I am sure most of you know I keep games for a very short amount of time and if I hate a game it's gone , also there is no investment protection review going on here as I had already pre sold the game for the same amount I bought it for as I was certain I was gonna hate it.
Ok so since daventry I have not stopped playing it, it's a complete beast and the other games I am loaning iron man and Spider-Man have not even had a look in.
So everyone bangs on about the toys and huge screen etc etc, and yes the toys are sweet and the display even though I don't think it needs to be as big as it is are all great but the real wow factor here is the overall package . The rules are bonkers, there are so many stages to do before you can get to melting the wicked witch and you have to complete each section to win a jewel you need to collect all these jewels to advance to the end wizard mode.
A multiball is never a given and starting it is just the beginning you have to the collect each characters gift from the wizards thrown room this will allow emerald city multiball still never done this and this is just one of the challenges to win a jewel.
The outlines each give you a timed shot to collect the horse of a difetent colour which is it's own mini game, once you have the four you want you can then cash in by flipping under the upper flipper back into the shooter lane " genius "
The crystal ball two ball multiball modes are all awesome the way the witch throws magic at you during play is such a cool feature, it might be .. Week flippers, or no hold flippers or she can turn all the lights out or reverse yours flippers and then if you hit the good witch target she cancells out the wicked witches magic , so cool
Mini playfield is so satisfying whipping the ball around and spinning the house to start the crazy munchkin modes or the other castle mini playfield is also great rescue multiball is fantastic and really tough to achieve.
Sounds are off the scale the lightshow is enough to send you into a light enduced fit
The build quality of the thing is just incredible it's built like a tank after the Armageddon the only thing left standing will be woz machines and people will be living with their entire families inside them silk screened cab just looks the nuts there has been no expense spared. I can't even look at iron man it's a bad example I know as iron man is really ugly but you just can't compare this thing to say Acdc.
I really don't have a bad thing to say about the game, ok the big one is the theme now I for one am left cold by woz as a theme and was very very vocal at my hatred for it and feel bad now as it really isn't that bad. The music isn't half as annoying as you would expect as there is so much other music going on the yellow birch road tune doesn't actually get played as much as you might think.
Oh yeah the toto and heal click drains are inspired roll your ball over the four rollovers and you try a 10 second one shot attempt to rescue toto and get your ball back same with the other side you have longer maybe 30 seconds to hit all rainbow targets then you have to shoot the two scoops stupidly hard but you lost your ball and it shouldn't be easy to win it back as when you do it's a real air punch moment.
So to round up this game is a truly great machine and does not deserve all the negativity I for one gave it, it's unfair to base any comments on previous versions as as it stands now it's nothing like that basket case that was hawked around for ages all over the country. This would never work on location it's a home machine all the way , it's challenging and the most beautiful looking pinball machine I have ever had. And most people who would be quick to slag it would not have had a chance to get to grips with it on a home location.
Anyone doubting the hobbit needs to come and play on my game or seek one out as I can't to wait to see what JJP can do with a fantastic theme like the hobbit it's gonna be epic.
So there it is I am out the closet and I can say it loud and proud I LOVE WOZ
Cheers will
