"F*** me, where did all that water come from?" was reportedly uttered by the captain of the Titanic, I had a similar moment today, "where did all these pins come from?", one minute you are casually acquiring the machines you fancy and the next you are using them as storage because all the space in your humble abode has been invaded, anyone else had that Christ moment? when the reality sets in that you have more cabinets than Ikea and more pins than most arcades in their heyday.

Head count is 18, OK I have met people with 50 but it was enough to make me cough

Wish I had space for 18, you lucky sod

Time to farm them out to friends. Do you have any friends ?

I've got 5 of my own and 2 that I babysit lol ooooohh yeah it starts with one :. Current line up ..... Whirlwind, earthshaker, dirty Harry,roadshow,b.o.p,Totan and creature

Yep I have been at that stage a few times. My max was 24 pins, 7 jukes and a fruity. Just over a year ago I was down to 3 pins, now I'm back up to 16, its a sickness

I agree, it is a sickness - I'm up to 11 and in all fairness, I have room for 6. I kinda feel like the pinball version of Mr Cresote sometimes ....

I don't LOL

See I think this is where the sickness really comes in. Of course you have all good intentions at the beginning. Ronsplooter i'm sure your initial intention was just to get one, probably like most of us (infact, we only really had room for one didn't we!). But then very quickly you start seeing space that wasn't their before, you start moving tables and chairs, re-configuring. And then you make the plunge, oh well if we just have that one that were going to definitely keep in the house that would be ok....2,3,4,5. And there is definitely room in that bedroom, oh and if we just knock that wall through, and if we just fold them up and rotate every few months, and if we just rent that lockup............

Tbh I have been thinking about moving house recently for the sole reason to get more pin space
biggrin-1.png
I also came close to buying a third at the Slam even though I would have had no where to put it!

I think what got me was the blur that preceeded the wake up call, obviously I knew they were adding up but there is a bit of difference between two or three (norm) and eighteen, certainly made me think, I appreciate it's what I do for a living so it stands to reason that it comes with the job but it's still a lot of wooden cabinets wedged into every spare nook. I think money changes identity also, before money was money, now it has a name, £700 is called a Demo man etc, before it was plain old £700

I am backing off now though, given up on the MM, had 1st refusal on the CV but had other matters to attend to, didn't go for the recent Junkyard on ebay with a BIN of £1000, would have nabbed it last year, I think I am getting a grip
wink-1.png
and will shift a title before I purchase another, damn hard to part with any though, every game has appeal.

Do you think it's fair to say that when there's a significant other living under the same roof as the pinball enthusiast the move from one to two pins is probably the trickiest to negotiate? I got a roll of the eyes and a resigned shrug when I announced my intentions to bring one home, but I get the feeling that any attempt to broach the subject of acquiring a second pin might not be met with such compromise!
smile-1.png

I avoided the negotiating and kinda just did it....and kept doing it....and am still doing it! 1 to 3 was easy as they all went in the same place - I think when they start appearing in rooms/spaces which are a bit more intrusive, the problems start. Good luck!

Toy and a workshop is great but like so many I ran out of space.

So now I have pins being babysat while I try and get this addition under control.

And how do we do that ? Extend the games room of course. hopefully once done I should be good to bring all my machines back and have room for another four or five as well as having a workspace at the front enough for three machines.

Think I will be at some pa meeting shortly saying stuff like "I have a problem". But it's a problem I love doing and wouldn't swap for anything. I love this hobby and always will.

Like whats been said before we are only the custodians for these beautiful machines and once we are gone and our collections sold off to another custodian to look after them, then the circle will continue to give pleasure to more and more people in the future years.

In the far future all of us and our machines will be broken down into atoms and become something else entirely .....just as we have all taken different forms over the past billions of years.

My other hobbies at the moment are:

3 x Motorbikes

2 x Cars

Snowboarding

Rock climbing

Cars and motorbikes can be bought cheaply and kept running but then I pay tax, insurance and MOT's on all of them. With the price of petrol increasing and the sourcing of spare parts for them not getting cheaper, the whole thing is very expensive. I rent garages and don't have a proper workshop and so spend a lot of time working in the street. My girlfriend would lose me for the day to work on them.

The Girlfriend is appreciating that I can work on the pinball in the house, with her around and then we play it when it is put back together. My first machine has cost a bit of money to get it back working properly under the hood but I have learnt on it and feel more comfortable now with tackling another project. Space is the issue but there are positive signs that if I decorate the kitchen I can have a second machine, she would like to have a say in what that machine is though.

How much are you paying her Andy ?

Less than minimum wage but still loads for a 9 yr old
biggrin-1.png
, she loved doing it (well it's not like working down a coal mine, it was more like getting paid to play with Mecanno), I was the same as a child, remember stripping motorcycle engines to pieces and rebuilding at a similar age (well I was 11, damn them pesky XL250S cam chain problems), it's nice to see a youngster getting some satisfaction from something other than games consoles or internet, it is all confidence building, she will have no qualms with servicing her own car when she's older.

Only problem I found with letting someone else strip a pf is when it's time to rebuild, took a while longer to put this back together as I had no mental blueprint of the strip

What better place for a daughter to grow up, she is equipped with skills she will have for life, not least the skill of giving something a go. Too many people never even try and end up needing the help of others for no reason other than they didn't have someone willing to let them have a go.

You are bang on the money, the buzz she expressed as I trusted her to get stuck in was immense, we are all the same as kids when our parents give us the green light to do something outside of what is perceived as the norm, maybe take the wheel on the boat momentarily etc, we had a great time, I sneaked that picture, she does not know it exists....life is sweet.

Wow, I got accused of having a mid-life crisis because I got a quad bike and pinball machine in the same twelve month period!
smile-1.png

A quad bike? Don't you think that is a little excessive?
wink-1.png

I have been having mid life crises for years but the vehicles are all explainable and the collection has grown over the years. You have the classic Jap bike, the classic car, the sports bike, the touring bike and then the daily running car which has been modified so it looks pretty normal but has nearly 60% more BHP. Most are finish projects (classic bike was to be sold) and I am thinking that pinball might be taking up most of my time in the future.

Anyone having trouble posting?

Sorry for breaking the topic but can't seem to get on any other way.

Went from 1 to 5, coincidentally just after the wife became the ex. The place is full but the plans have been submitted for a new games room. Fingers crossed they will ley me carry on with the sickness lol.
