I’m sure brake cleaner will deal with the black stuff. But not sure I’d want to get it onto wood. Used to use brake cleaner to clean the clutch and diff gears on model cars. Great stuff but pretty unfriendly to work with.
Cant vouch for break cleaner but there are people on pinside who use it. I use 'fast panel wipe' for cleaning almost anything on a pinball. If you use anything fast evaporating make sure you have good ventilation and no naked flames / sparks as its almost guaranteed to be highly flammable even when airborne.
