I posted here and on the Yahoo group looking to sell my BoP. It works, but the playfield is completely trashed. I had a couple of enquries, but they backed off when they saw the playfield pics....

I asked for £425, so an open question to all.... Am I better off breaking this machine and selling the parts, or dropping the price lower so someone will keep it alive? If I break it, I figure the boards and displays (which all work well) must be worth £150 or so together. The translite is good and I can salvage some of the plastics and the turning head mechanism with motor might get a couple of quid. A few cab parts (apron, lockdown bar) might sell too I suppose.

So. Should I break it? Or if not what's a sensible price to ask for it so it will live?

A couple more folks wanted some pictures, so I've posted some above. Worth £425? I'd hate to break it, but I don't want to sell it for less than the value of the parts as otherwise at some point in the near future I reckon it'll get broken by someone else anyway. If not worth £425, anyone want to make me an offer to take it and not break it?

Break it.. You may get a few quid for the boards.

I sell the odd "spares or repair" board & they go for between 50 & 70 English pounds.

if money's not an issue for you then drop the price and sell it would be my advise. there are a lot of people who would buy it at the right price for there kids or as a project etc.

breaking for parts is fine if you have the time and inclination to list the parts on ebay etc but if i were mine my heart would try and let it have a chance of a few more years with someone.

good luck!

+1 for selling it to whoever will enjoy it and try to repair it

there's less of these things every year, i couldn't break up a machine and still sleep at night

These machines are rare enough without another being broken for parts/spares Does your love for pinball tell you not to break it up or has the demon £ got to you.

I think everyone is starting to get a little bit picky about the condition of a game. I know a lot of you enjoyed playing my Taxi, Jokerz! and BK2K at the UKPP recently. Those pins all have worn playfields, broken plastics and badly scratched cabinets, but were all still great fun to play!

The dilemma in keeping or breaking a game like this is the price of the boards and displays; A good working Power/Driver board will sell for over £100, a new alphanumeric display is £140, the CPU board will sell for £100. That's nearly £350 straight away!

I have a Bad Cats that needs a new CPU board. A brand new one of those is £220, half the value of the game! Do I part it out and use the bits to keep my other System 11 games running, or do I hold on to a non-working game that is taking space up in my home? As has been said by others, I would feel guilty breaking up a perfectly good machine.

sell me your Jokerz and you can fix the Bad cats. I'm not really allowed another pin but the Mrs loved the jokerz at the party so if i see one at the right money i'm having one!!

That playfield is proper Michael Jackson but don't break it, it plays = it will give pleasure, yup it's no oil painting but Henrik in Germany could get that playfield looking like new.....many a good tune can be played on an old worn out fiddle

I would have thought somewhere around £250 mark for a machine that could still be sited... who knows even JTS might take it if the price is sensible enough for him!

The other option is to bay it, 99p no reserve... and see if it'll reach the £425 that you're hoping for....

I would guess it's worth about £350-400, any working good title Bally Williams must be worth that, what it's got going against it apart from the obvious is the price of nice BOP, they only make about £900 (which is pretty cheap for a decent pin), unfortunately this one is probably worth more in bits but if it was mine I would let it go to someone who was going to restore it and take a slight loss and not have the hassle of parting it out.

I sold it for £350 to someone who'll keep it in one piece. Much nicer than breaking it. Thanks for the comments all!

Great stuff, really glad this pin has made it to a home that will keep it alive, in my opinion BOP is one of the best and most important pins ever made

well I quite like bad cats, so I'd keep it - although I'd probably hang on for a repairable CPU board on ebay rather that buy a replacement one ..

Someone on the group has kindly offered to have a look at the board for me. I can repair minor board faults, but this one is out of my league.

Bad Cats is safe for now....
