Quick question, I don’t know if you have seen but there seems to be a lot of people complaining about problems with the new jjp pinball gnr, from switches needing gapping to parts coming unscrewed on the play field, and plunger issues, sound issues, the list really goes on,
My question is, should this be expected from all bnib pinballs or is this a quality issue on this pinball alone? Or just jjp,

thanks

with JJP, yes. I did a ludicrous amount to Dialed in. Stern, maybe minor, maybe some quality issues. American pinball worked right out the box. Remember these have been in a container and bounced around a bit.

Some of the issues aren't acceptable but most are fairly easily rectified. It is when your playfield is ****ed that's the real problem. I've seen a couple of warped playfields recently (horizontally convex) so the ball gets pulled towards the outlanes. The best Stern would do is send you an unpopulated playfield, if you're lucky, and by all accounts that could take months to process.

It definitely makes you think twice before going NIB. Whilst the risk is comparatively small due to the hundreds of ones that don't have issues, if you are that unlucky person that has a bad playfield you have very little recourse.

Stern NIB and Spooky are equally as bad as JJP.

It’s a lottery when you buy one. Some of it is down to things getting shaken loose in transit. Others are down to poor QC in the factory.

Plus you get the joy of half ****d code in the beginning so you play another lottery to see if they work on the code or leave it. Sometimes you get an Elvira/TWD other times a Munsters.

Don’t forget play field dimples are really noticeable on new games.

I’m the second owner of my DI, love the game but the annoying background noise from the speakers was horrible, I fitted an inline ground loop isolator, problem solved, but why do machines leave the factory like this?

Best £8.99 I’ve spent in a long time.

Interestingly JJP sell ground loop isolators on their website.

Chris.

Maybe the pinball companies have less concern for their customers due to lack of choice?

If I purchased a Hotpoint fridge and it required a new seal and some soldering in order to keep the food cold I'd not buy from them again.

My toaster, TV, car, phone, internet etc work as soon as I buy them. On the rare occasion they don't it's rectified quickly so I'm unsure why a game that costs thousands is so hard to produce.

I guess it's quality control but having seen the various production lines on the TMT video tours there really is no excuse because it looks efficient and organized.

It's not a JJP thing... I've had Hobbit, Dialed In, Pirates, and Wonka only one I had real issues with was Hobbit with a Warg pop up... @philpalmer got a replacement mech and boom sorted

And remember mine were on location so got a whole lot more plays than in a household environment

I personally feel it's down to luck...

I've opened 3 pins (Stern) nib. 2 needed minor adjustments but nothing that stopped them being played.

Out of receiving 5 x NIBs the only thing that was loose was a ribbon cable from the DMD on AC/DC.
Have to also remember what can be done - hidden - botched fixes on used pins too.
I agree though, biggest concern is PF and cab being damaged or not right with NIB.

No plans for any more mmr but I suspect they will at some point
Cgc don’t need to rush anything pinballs are only a very small part of there business expect cc later in the year can’t see it being a massive seller though

:( , seems they really missed the boat on lockdown sales ? Jjp through the roof on orders and all very quiet from Cgc? Thanks for the update on mm tho

All NIB issues are made up for with the NIB box smell that is absolutely amazing and probably deadly.

I bought a NIB jjp DI LE. I was extremely disappointed. It needed more work than a 30 Yr old working wpc game.

If you want build quality, buy a wpc era game, System 11 Williams, or Bally SS.

If you want modern and fancy, it might make sense to buy a HUO Stern or JJP from someone else. They will probably have sorted all the initial faults for you

people forget that when the WPC game came out of the box they all needed tweaking but few of us were buying NIB back then, we just have inherited already tweaked games.

I had three CGC games, two issues on AFM the ROM update and the guide but they sorted that out without any agro (took a while for the ROM). They are by far the best build quality. Stern lots of tweaks, JJP lots of tweaks, spooky ALOT of tweaks.

AIQ with the lock subway knackered, Stranger things waiting for new TK lock parts to make it work better.

But there is a difference with tweaking and down right ****e:

Playfields are a joke at the moment, it is absolutely costing Stern and JJP sales, at the moment though for everyone not buying there are two/three new folks to the hobby that will buy and who don't realise the potential **** show they are in for. Spending thousands of pounds on a new car and taking delivery is a delight, spending thousands of pounds on a new pinball machines and taking delivery is a high blood pressure stress fest to makes sure you game isn't ****ed. I've been lucky but something tells me that luck is going to run out soon and if Stern or JJP don't make it right I'll be out of the NIB game and I'll let some other sucker be the guinea pig.

I am very surprised to read of some of the problems that people are having with the gnr, they mostly sound like problems due to the pin being rushed out of the door by jjp, it can be the huge difference between the succession or fail of a product, seems strange to me really,

Apart from some early games with iffy playfields I don't see anything super bad about GNR

I've only ever bought two NIB pins, both Stern's, both good as gold. Gary Stern is my homeboy. That's not to say I haven't been fortunate but the messianic JJP have a false reputation of being a cut above imo.

I agree, it can be very nerve racking opening a NIB wondering what condition the pin will be in.
I took some of the risk out of my Kiss LE purchase from PU.
As part of the service, they open and test the pin, add upgrades etc....
I made it clear to them I didn’t want a wrinkled decal version so we agreed they would re-decal any that was sub par prior to shipping.
They photographed every aspect of the cab and emailed.
Lucky for me it was totally mint prior to shipping & upon arrival 😅

Did anyone get a Hotwheels? What are AP like for build quality- a few on pinside have said they find the sound of the mechs agricultural compared to a Stern. It looks a fun family game imo- don’t hear much about it though

I've had no problems with any of the AP games - all good.
