Big Buck Hunter Fuse Issue

Hello Everyone,

I am hopeful that one of you pinball genius’ can help me out.

Last week my flippers stopped working in the middle of a game on my Big Buck Hunter. Thanks to help from @Dave Playman I found it had blown the F5 fuse (coils / flippers). Replaced the fuse and unsurprisingly it blew again straight away. I then tried to power up without the F5 fuse in the holder and it blew the in line small fuse in the cabinet. Put the F5 fuse back in and the in line didn’t blow.

I have looked for an obvious short, but I cannot see anything. As a side to this, the pop up post to the rear of the playfield has not been working (not a big deal and it was on my list to look at).

Anyway, I am after some advice as to what to look for and how to get to the bottom of the issue?

Just to confirm you mean the 5A fuse in the line filter to the right of the coin box?

Confused - are you saying that after putting both (new) fuses back in the game worked? Or only F5 blew again?

Note to self: the BBH manual on stern's website is pretty useless but the one for Shrek has all the SAM schematics; p.97 and p.105 seem to be the relevant ones here.

Yes, the small 5A cabinet fuse, right of the coin box.

And yes, once both are in, the F5 fuse blew, but the 5A cabinet fuse didn’t. Lights and DMD works, but no coils worked and the ball wouldn’t go into the shooter lane.

I am confused as to why the small 5A amp fuse would blow when the F5 fuse (7A) is not in the fuse holder.

Any advice greatly appreciated. I have the proper Big Buck Hunter manual (it’s different to the one on line), so hopefully that will help.
