Data East games get a bad rap (rap? rep?) but i don't get it. they made plenty of great games, and ok maybe a few stinkers too, but then so did all the other major manufacturers.

So let's test this poll feature out, i've not used it before on here. Please don't get hung up on the difference between 'best game' and 'favourite game' and 'most fun game' and 'most challenging game', just pick one, ok?

actually pick 3, that will work much better if the software allows it - let's take a look.....
doh! it only allows me to have 10 options .....

ah boll_ocks, i found there were more games than i could fit in one poll. before i try my best, what was the deal with Sega? are they a continuation of DE before the whole shebang got bought up by Stern? should i include Sega in my search? there's loads of games that i considered DE that are probably Segas

ah boll_ocks, i found there were more games than i could fit in one poll. before i try my best, what was the deal with Sega? are they a continuation of DE before the whole shebang got bought up by Stern? should i include Sega in my search? there's loads of games that i considered DE that are probably Segas

obviously we can discount any games that were only made in less than 10 tables, but still that's a load of titles for a poll....

I would certainly consider Maverick, Frankenstein, Baywatch and Batman Forever as DE games. Same boardset, similar backbox design. Just with the Sega name.

Once they intoduced the Whitestar baord set with apollo 13 I consider them Sega proper. I *think* around that time some of the decent DE designers, code guys left which is why the game quality started to take bit of a nosedive. Though there still are some decent Sega games.

Top 3 DE ......GnR, Tommy, Jurassic Park/Baywatch (= 3rd)

Never even played a LAH (one of the few dmds )so can't count that in my decision.

ok i decided to just pick ten then, based on ..... well, you know. i wasn't gonna put Maverick in there, was I?

ah jeeeeeeezus boll-ocks on a bike .... i can't add a poll now, i think you can only put a poll in the first post in a thread maybe.

never mind, just look at the list and let us know what are your 3 choices. you don't have to put them in order, just pick 3

a man's life.jpg

edit: GrizZ, you shoulda come along this weekend, there was a LAH there to play (John Whitfield's) and it was loads of fun. at some point John is gonna come clean about his efforts this weekend. John?

Frankenstein, GNR, Tommy, TFTC in that order.... Although i was very surprised by batman forever,

I've owned and played lots of william/bally machines, which yes have a very solid feel about them, but De and Sega still made a good machine IMO.
Think they were just as reliable imo and some good themes.

My first pin was owned for 2 years and was LW3,loved it...then realised it wasn't the only machine to be had...thats another story.

Like LW3, Baywatch a lot. Love Baywatch theme as love the beach and ocean. Great music and video modes and a ton of ramps, what isn't to like :)

If you are ever near Brighton give me a shout .....beach 5 mins away, and Baywatch in the lineup :smokin:

So long as you promise none of the other members see me playing it :-) seriously tho, think Baywatch is a very underated game. Cool tunes and vid modes. I'll let you know Griz, cheers.

Si

Yep, baywatch one of the better DE / sega pins for sure, I like it so much I own 2 :) best value for money pin I can think of by quite some margin actually.

also Frankenstein, Star Wars , secret service (!), tftc all very good, plus lots of others really ..

LAH, GnR and a toss up for 3rd spot between Baywatch and Frankie, though I only have very limited experience of TFTC and Tommy

From my playing experience it is hard to separate Tommy and GnR for first. Then I might plump for TFTC for that loop ramp but not sure I could own the theme without a really dark games room. ;)

From my playing experience it is hard to separate Tommy and GnR for first.

As much as I dearly love Tommy ....I would prob give the nod to GNR. They just went balls out on that game and threw everything in .... 2 plungers, magnets, drop targets, captive ball play area....

Though I think a finely tuned and highly polished Tommy (yes like mine ) is a thing of beauty.

Guns N Roses and TFTC for me. With Tommy and JP joint third.

Honorable mention to Time Machine because it was a great concept.

Phantom of The Opera gets my vote. But I love all Data East games, and I'm really enjoying Hook at the moment.

Checkpoint is good fun also.
