The Arcade has been sold and it's currently going through with an estimated completion of the end of February
I am likely to forfeit my lease for the upstairs unit and go back to only the ground floor and basement which means going down to maybe 15 machines
I then have to fight the council for over charging me and get my money back
I have briefly spoken to the new landlord and he has already indicated increasing my rent in September. Running costs are rocketing and with the ongoing living crisis which means trade has declined 35% overall since the living crisis started two years ago. A price increase will price us out of this unit.
So its likely we'll close mid-september.
And to be frankly honest with COVID and the Living Crisis hospitality has been a dumpster fire and bars and restaurants have been going out of business everywhere... It gets harder and harder to survive and this stripped the majority of the joy I had running this business, it gets harder and harder to find good staff and it all falls on me its knocked my mental health a lot recently and i think a change will be best for me
Sorry to hear it's had it's toll on you Kirk. Hope things somehow work out. Will be tremendously sad to lose another great tournament venue. Your place is probably the closest large and permanent fixture for a huge number of us Northern (and Midland) bunch. The Super Series have been terrific, much like the events at Electric Circus in previous years.
Sorry to read this Kirk. It’s tough running any business but hospitality in all its forms seems to be virtually impossible to succeed in at the moment.
Good luck with whatever your future ventures end up being
