Need the above and the only two suppliers I can find are MAD or Marco, can't find anything in Europe. As I've never ordered from the States before is one preferable to the other? Any pitfalls, hidden charges etc.?

They're both just shy of $300 so can't be separated on price.

Anyone have one lurking about or mended one? I see there is a YT vid of a strip down & repair, I'll have a look at it later, nowt to lose if I knacker it up completely I suppose,

Cheers,

Alan

Very helpful video here. In your shoes, I'd take it to bits and have a go. You could always take the soldering job to a clock maker if need be

Find an old fashioned clock repairer in your area.
Mr Palmers dad used to repair the hard to find gearboxes but I do not think he is doing it these days !
A clock repairer will make the gears

Fingers crossed that it is just the soldering job

As above, I am pretty sure that an old time clock maker could manufacture one for you

If no clock maker readily available could try approaching your local makerspace/hacklab/mens shed group. They're typically well resourced and enjoy a challenge

'Bout time someone sold 3D printed gear sets, innit? Nylon gears should be fine for those. Tamiya RC gearboxes used/still use nylon gears don't they?

I'm don't think 3D printing would work, would need to be injection due to the stress.

Looking at the gearing of that unit and the camber arm I'm amazed they are lasting as long as they are.

Without wanting to pay for an imported unit I think using a watch maker or amateur engineering group is a really good idea. Making a copy with the original to hand is not that hard.

Nylon sucks for this - delrin would work but won't last. BMW use Delrin in their throttle actuators on the E92 M3 and they went eventually. 2K to sort it and BMW would just put delrin ones back in. a guy made metal ones put them in an never another issue. When you put it back together be super cautious about even the smallest contaminant otherwise it becomes crunching time.

Neil.

Nice one Alan, I thought you would struggle getting it sorted but kudos to you fella you sorted it.
So now I will be asking a few questions as I have a Addams here thats getting the full restore and it's got a noisy gear box on Thing so get ready for some questions.

Come on details required! Did you make it yourself? If not who made it and where from & how much?

Google pointed me to a clock repairer a couple of miles away. Set off expecting a shop/retail outlet & arrived at a three storey terraced house, rang the bell & stepped into a Dickens novel.

How much? Well the bloke’s on here, @insurance ,so I’d rather not say, don’t want to be accused of profiteering, but it was more than £79 & under £81.

@replicas Daz, if more than one gear’s gone it’s gonna be best to replace it. The repairer knows a place that uses CAD , this was hand/lathe made, & if multiple gears ordered the price would tumble, but you’ve still got to get it on the splines right plus he cleaned all the mech up & cheched the other cogs.

A small price to pay for what's sounds and looks like a thoughtfully and skillfully hand crafted part that you know works.

It's warming to know there are still people out there who not only have these amazing skills but also genuinely care about the end result.
