Read this on RPG and LTG seems to have the inside scoop and by all accounts it looks like AC-DC is going to be a sensational pin. Not sure how it can live up to the hype but getting very curious:p

Steve Ritchie is working on the most awesomest ACDC pin to make everybody go

holy sh*t and scramble to get theirs.

He's been working harder and longer on this game than any other in pinball

history. To mark his triumphant return to Stern Pinball with the greatest

game ever.

Don't worry about when it's coming or when we'll get a glimpse of it, worry

about how to get yours.

I suspect in a months time we will be witnessing the most exciting things in

pinball since Williams closed.

No I'm not being sarcastic.

And I've been a friend of Steve's for many years.

Now as far as theme, back when you had four companies building forty

different games each year, eventually your favorite theme might come along.

When you have Stern working on four different games each year, well there is

no way in hell you'll please everybody.

Pick a theme, some will like it, some will call it a waste.

With the limited titles coming out, I'd wait and see and play before I call

it a waste.

You have to pick something, and arrange it, and ACDC came up.

Right now I'm more excited by the goings on.

In late 1999 when Williams shut down their pinball division, I kid you not,

ops didn't know the future availability of rubber rings or light bulbs, much

less anything else. Stern was just getting rolling and not many were looking

to them.

Now twelve years later look at what is going on. A year from now it will be

rolling. But right now we are fortunate to be witnessing the greatest in

happenings in pinball in too many years. To be part of the excitement and

hopes for a better future for the game we love.

Stern is coming on like gangbusters, the whole package not just dumming

things down.

Look at the Transformers LE with the red trim, isn't that the hottest

package for a production pin ever ?

You think Steve is sitting back and not doing things to top it ? Steve is

going to plant his flag now and forever on the Mount Everest of pins.

And don't forget Jersey Jack. Wizard Of Oz is just a start. He'll make his

mark with that pin, and his next few games will really light things on fire.

And we get to watch things unfold and come together.

These are great days my friends and should enjoy them as such. They won't

come again, only get better.

Get that man a job in the PR dept!

Yeh, he certainly put his soul into that.

Do you think he is looking forward to this pin being released ?

You would think he works for Stern but he has bought a WOZ and is on the pre-order group as well. And he has been very pro Jack, so for him to say this was a surprise.

Got to admit I am tempted to put an early deposit on the ACDC.....

but only if "Whole lotta rosie" is in there somewhere

Can't help thinking it's another Rolling Stones, Elvis or other title based on a band/artist that's well past it's sell by date, why do they do it? the possibilities are endless with regards to license and yet it's the middle aged male targeting strategy again, I appreciate that it's this gender and age group who generally own machines but can't help thinking that they are bypassing the new wave of pinhead, don't think I could handle hearing any band's music over and over on a pin, maybe Yello as they are hotter than Jessica Alba in a French maid outfit (ok maybe not quite but damn close)

Surely better than basing it on modern music though, otherwise we'd end up with a bloody Justin Bieber pin  Sounds like they're banking on Steve Ritchie's name and pin designing skills to sell this one though, although that only really works with people who've heard of him (i.e not the general public).

Love Richie's work and have been a DC fan for over 30 years, but think I would like to see something else, not that I would buy a NIB (well not at this stage in my pinball life, maybe later) maybe I am just groaning about the lack of imagination, must get through all that ironing today and finish off my knitting.

I'll believe it when I see it. Can't see Stern suddenly deciding to go back ten years and start making fully featured pins again. TF is OK but let's be honest, the toys look like they came out of a happy meal yet the pin is the most expensive in their history

@Dreads - I believe the AC/DC choice was cemented after the response to a question on Sterns facebook page (and maybe elsewhere) about which band you would most like to see featured on a pin....

Their last album went to number one in about 15 countries, they have the 2nd highest selling album in history and there are millions of kids into them. No brainer for a theme. Unlike Elvis and TRS who really don't appeal to anyone under the age of 50

Not having played one without other pins drowning out the sound, is Iron Man not full of AC/DC tracks already? I'm sure they did the soundtrack to the film.

No AC/DC in the IM Pin.

Is it okay though? It's not getting a lot of love ATM - software issues and poor build quality have been commented on. I see Pinball News is on the case with a review but has anyone played one yet? I have yet to play the game at all but I had hoped this would have been awesome. I suppose the question now is whether or not pinball manufacturing is JJPs for the taking? Will AC/DC be the killer pin to keep Stern in the game? I'm not so sure!

Interesting that you say that given that in the time that JJP will have finally produced one pin (from announcement to production, assumed to be starting March next year), Stern will have manufactured four or five titles in the same time frame... Whilst not all these titles may capture your imagination and you might not like build quality or their affordability, they are very much the market leaders and JJP will be the new boy on the block with no track record in producing machines but it looks like you (and others) are already touting them as the way forward/saviours/whatever...! :suspect:

I agree with you Moonraker and I'm certainly not espousing JJP as the future of pinball just yet. I just think that in any business, if you stand still for too long (or go backwards as some might level at Stern) then you are asking to be overtaken by others. It would appear that latest releases from Stern are a far cry from their LOTR, TSPP days, although Tron is clearly a pin with pretty decent gameplay, so with all the press JJP is generating without a machine even in the public domain it would appear that operators and collectors are wanting more than a bog standard pro edition and an LE edition that has a few more bells and whistles. Stern have single handedly kept pinball alive for the masses and for that they must be commended. You could even say that Stern will now become victims of their own success should JJP succeed. For me it's all about having an interesting discussion and hopefully both companies keep going so that I can play these machines in the pubs and arcades that are left in this country!

I managed to put in a few games on the Transformers Pro in Las Vegas arcade in London last week. I can't really say that I was very impressed with it. Maybe I need a few more games on it before I can give a real opinion. Tron on the other hand I am very impressed with, even by just playing the Pro version in Bournemouth.

Everyone needs to get out there into these arcades, and drop some coins into these remaining Sterns. No money in the coin box on these games, (in which the operator has invested several thousand pounds buying each one), will mean the operator will just go for those infernal spinning reel things instead, which need less looking after and will make them more profit.

Not played TF yet so i will hold out my final judgment, but from what i see on youtube, i am not that impressed.

I played Tron at the UK pin show in daventry and although i had reservations about the quality of the Pro machine, i quickly realised it was one of the finest. When i think about it, no other Stern machine has made me feel like that.

If there were arcades in the north east that actually had pinball, i would be there on a daily basis....

You cant equate JJP taking a year to make a pin to Stern putting out 4 in that time. Jack told everyone 6 months ago AC/DC was being made and it's not due for release until March. Even Stern pins take a year from start to finish, they just have enough momentum now to have 2 or 3 on the go at once.
