What the smeg is wrong with these people? 4 years to make a book then decide it’s $85 to ship it. Hmmmmm no I don’t think so. The thing is finally dead

Yeah same situation here. Absolutely insane. Just sent this to complain to KS but sure it won't get me anywhere:

Hi,

I backed this project many years ago. After countless delays I was finally sent my backer kit, only to find out that the shipping charges to the UK are $85.35 when they were originally estimated to be $17.

I've recently had a larger and heavier item shipped from the the USA to England for $40. It was sent on a Tuesday and arrived three days later on the Friday.

There is absolutely no justification for charging $85 to ship a book from the USA to the UK when there are many other options that are far more economical. This is not a time sensitive item.

I've backed other projects on Kickstarter that have failed before delivery, but this it the first time I've felt the need to get in touch with you. The shipping cost is five times higher than was originally estimated and from experience I know that it is excessive.

If you could please investigate I would appreciate it.

Kind regards,

xxx

KS won't do ****ing **** - I stopped backing stuff on KS just after this after another sh1tshow like this.

Haha yeah I know, been there / done that before but makes me feel slightly better!

I've given up on KS since backing this years ago, just not worth the hassle. This is the one outstanding project I still have and what a fitting way to end it.

Agree...absolutely shocking! Keep everyone’s money for 4 years. Then charge nearly double the book value for postage.
When I got the invoice I thought it was $85.00 total minus the backing of $55.00. (Still overinflated).
Probably need all the extra money to pay back all the money originally collected. Very poor show indeed...
They should be ashamed of themselves..........🙁

Here is my response:

I have 2 questions

Could you please provide the quote you received for shipping which can possibly justify you charging $85 for a book originally estimated at costing just $13?
Even with inflation and doubling of weight that cost is simply ludicrous.
I regularly ship to my sister in the US, and receive parcels from her. NEVER has a cost even approached what you are proposing, for parcels weighing more - and larger.
My previous job was shipping aircraft parts around the world priority, we only charged our customers, airlines, £25 per parcel for next day delivery anywhere in the world!

2nd question, when are you intending on shipping these? I ask this specifically because you state that we can change our address between now and when you are ready to ship.
You've already said you are ready to ship immediately.

What is going on?

For a project which has been so poorly managed from start to finish, and taken over 4 years to reach a point when you are asking for more double the original I find the sheer gall to charge $85

I await your response before progressing further"

Quite frankly they can fick right off if they think they're getting $85 to ship a book that cost $55!

Is it just the book are are there other items included like t-shirts, jackets, small elephant?

Don't forget the cost of postage wll take the item over the duty free limit (I think books are zero rated but shipping?) so customs and admin charges may be payable.

Yeah that sounds an absolute joke and rip off. I'd be livid if I'd have backed it. I would like to get a copy and did contact through KS to see if they had any left but heard no reply. Suppose that sums up how they think of customers!

Seems like they might have some spare stock now but 'm not paying $85 shipping on top, not that they would reply anyway!

I hope you guys get an acceptable solution.

Another scam by Joe to con more money out of this hobby and it’s community. Glad to see a load over on pinside saying Joe can ram it.

Bet that $85 includes some margin to repay the debts they’ve accumulated over the last 4yrs. Really f’ing cheeky.
A few worked out you can send state to state for about $11 yet he’s charging guys over in the US twice or just over twice that, Canada is like $60-$70. Guys from Aus/NZ have had invoices for $80+ and then the rest of the worlds been $80-100!

One thing you can say about Joe is the blokes got no shame at all! Ironically if the whole book hadn’t been turned into a complete joke by Joe taking 4 years consisting of delay and lie after lie, people probably would have paid up for this postage scam without question.

Simply awful.
Is it not possible to get them posted to a US address and get them forwarded together as a 'gift'?

Has anyone contacted Stern as they gave permission to use images and logos etc? Maybe pressure from that side would help.

Another reason for this charge is the book may be seriously over budget and they are trying to get back some of the excess costs (or simply make more money).

They're charging nearly $30 for US postage.

Don't expect any response soon. I got an out of office response saying that are off Tuesday 3rd because if the election, we'll get back to you on our return on the 4th. Thus response came on today.
Maybe Joe has been moonlighting as a vote counter, explains so much

To any backers out there , I suggest a 'friendly' comment on the kickstarter page to cheer us all up. :) Also there is a report button at the end of the campaign page which is worth ago

Here's my comment :) I feel better , ha ha ha

Yeah its obvious this isnt about real shipping. I ship things worldwide every day and could quote the costs for all sorts of weights, sizes etc but i cant be bothered. They are just jokers. $55 gone but never mind, i wanted to support it at face value as stern are great.

Maybe i'll get it sent to one of my friends in the usa and give it to them instead.

Simply stupid.

I still stand by the fact they have lost money on the book and are clawing some back.

Do Stern know this product branding their official logo and intellectual property is overcharging people?

Hang on - £1,000 for a TMNT topper..... Gary Stern would say 'good on you'.....
