Got an Stern DMD here with 1 dot out that i don't need.

Removed from a low plays (1500) 1st run HUO Tron.

Honestly have no idea what that's worth to someone.

Orange dots i think - had a red film over it.

Pics show test mode - ignore the moving vertical line.

i wouldn't have thought that would be a problem for most people, it's just one dot. it should sell for whatever 2nd hand DMDs go for, minus 20% i suppose.
others may disagree of course.

how easy are Stern DMDs to fix?
i was told i'd need to replace some of the little 8x8 blocks to fix something similar, but don't know how much hassle it is to access.

I've sent Sean an email, not heard back from him yet. :(

A related question if anyone can help please; I have a spare LED display out of AC/DC with 8x8 segments in it. Is this display compatible with Spiderman which has 16x16 segments?.

Possibly - Depends on wether stern changed makes of segment supplier at all - From what i have heard there were two... so he needs a sample of the broken one... Probably best to ship the display and say "fix it" :D

I've said as such in the email to Sean. :)

I'm on about swapping over the complete DMD display over while the faulty one is being repaired Paul. It has the same two connectors, just in a different place on the back of the display.

its fine keith early ones like SM are pin led ones the later are sterns really cheep and nasty ones you can pull the segments out on the pinled ones they are socketed so you can change them

Thanks @chris b and @mufcmufc for the confirmation.

I've just swapped over the displays and the display out of AC/DC is working fine in Spidey. :)

Apologies to @Monkeyboypaul for hi-jacking your thread  I notice that you have several modern Sterns in your collection. Of course I don't know how many Color DMDs you have fitted to your machines, If you have any, I would recommend keeping the display with the one pixel out as a working spare. If any of your games develops (God forbid) a worse fault such as a permanent line lit, you could swap it over while you get the other faulty display fixed.

Or are you after flogging the faulty display to part fund a Color DMD? :D

No problem - i'm interested to see Pinball Palace's customer service in action.
Yes, flogging because i don't have time to fix it right now and looking to soften the impact of buying that ColorDMD. I like the fact i can turn it blue, White, red, or full colour when the ROM is released.

I inherited a Dr Pinball display in Spiderman which is now set to white and it looks miles better than the orange DMD.

I think the red LED DMD that I have just put into Spiderman looks a lot better than the original Orange one. The only small problem with Color DMD and the other displays that use a LCD screen are that the brightness and contrast is a bit softer compared to the LED one.

I bought a ColorDMD for Star Trek last year and set it to plain blue, hoping for a full colour update for the game (which never materialised before I sold it). I have now put the Color DMD in AC/DC which looks really good in full colour. That's the great thing about ColorDMDs, you can easily transfer them between games and update the software via a USB stick.
