TO BE CLEAR THIS IS NOT BEING SOLD BY ME.

I contacted the owner, D. Hodges, of a MR & MRS PAC-MAN that was listed on PinballOwners.com. He's based in Exeter, Devon. The machine is listed here:

http://www.pinballowners.com/dihodges

With the note:

"ANY offer considered. Not working at the moment but has worked recently and wouldn't take too much to get working."

Judging the condition to be poor from the rather hazy photos I offered what I thought to be a reasonable £150 (which is around what I paid for PARAGON and GOLD BALL, both in similar non-working heavily worn/faded condition). He replied to say he was hoping to get more like £500. I politely replied to say that £550 would buy you a very nice working M&MPM from this forum, and also mentioned the recent sale of FUTURE SPA for £495, just to give an idea of prices.

He then sent me some more pictures, which although they were higher resolution are still very hazy (see below) and said he was open to negotiation. I re-evaluated my desire and upped my absolute maximum offer to £200 over a week ago. I got a reply tonight to say that he couldn't let it go for anything less than £250. I take it that means he'd take £250 for it.

I simply don't have that much cash. £150 was pushing it and £200 is over-budget meaning I'd have to sell something quite big. But I wanted to let the community know in case there was anyone out there thinking this is just the project they want at just the right price...

Ouch my eyes!

Frame the glass . Burn the rest lol

5 x 7 digit displays. Almost forgot how great pacman is for donating

2nd dibs please. If anyone wants empty cab I can save it

After an extremely generous offer from a fellow forum member who lives locally to collect the machine and bring it up nearer to me when they're over this way thus saving me £50 in petrol, I've decided I'm going to match the asking price and buy this machine. I also hadn't noticed it's got an ALTEK MPU which is a definite plus.

MR & MRS PAC-MAN is a bit of a grail pin for me. It was to be the first pin I was going to buy but it fell through, and then I missed another project M&MPM that got sold on here as I'd already committed to buying VECTOR. It's another Marmite pin because of the video game tie-in, a move which many purists feel was pinball selling out. Me, I like the underdog and I like annoying purists ;)

Also, you're all SCARING THE SH*T out of me with all this talk of scrapping and burning of classic pinball machines  PLEASE STOP! As you know I love saving and restoring these old crappy Bally machines. I might be slow, but I'm heading the right direction!

ill put out some feelers for a replacement playfield. this game sold in shedloads back in the day

Ask Andrew M if he can check with Baz as its the sort of thing he might have

Pacman was very frowned upon back in the day but cant have been just because it was a vid game tie in Defender has always been fawned over. Mainly I think it was the biase of the rules towards a non pinball skill ie the pacmaze or that it was seen as a bit "girly".

Thanks, @steve brum. Somehow  I've already managed to gather a few spares for this title; a SQUAWK & TALK sound board with PAC-MAN ROMs, the manual, etc,...

It probably is a bit "girlie" and it certainly isn't the most challenging game in terms of skills or rules, but hey! it's pinball and a cool video game all in one box!

the theme has made it a sleeper as the retro crowd love anything pacman. it also sold in much higher numbers than revered classics like centaur fathom and even EBD so the public liked it!

Quite a lot of games on that list that I've never even see let alone played.
Many of this list are SS. I suspect loads were operated to death and then went to the pinball graveyard as the DMD era kicked in and they all suddenly looked ancient. And the home collectors market didn't exist on the scale it does now.

Mr & Mrs Pac-man was the first pinball my family ever owned back in 1986 ish. Its what started it all for us and its still one of the best bally games from the 80s era in my view. The pac maze is a great feature and the skill shot is probably the best about. We used to have pencil lines drawn on the shooter rod for the 'sweet spot' to launch the ball. There's also a pattern you can learn to completing mazes and who doesn't love the pac-man speech of

"Pac Man Aggressive"

I actually use the pac-man sound rom set to test my new s&t board remakes as i love the speech so much :)

Just heard back from the seller. Deal done! I'm in. Just need to finalise the logistics.

But this also means I've crossed a critical threshold in the life of a pinball collector: I've finally bought more machines than I have space for

My summerhouse/office/pinshack most definitely only fits 3 pins in a row... unless I remove my desk that is! Then I reckon I could squeeze in one more in the corner at 90 degrees to the other 3. Definitely no room for the cocktail video game though. That'll will obviously HAVE to come indoors which is ok as the missus actually likes it.

Good machine for keeping the Mrs happy I am sure! Pac-Man makes all the girls happy :)
It would be a miracle if PAC-MAN made my wife happy. My first pin nearly caused a divorce. And let's not mention the debacle that was pin number 2. Pin 3 kinda slipped "under the radar" as it was supposed to be for spares ;) Of course we won't talk about my wife's hobbies and interests - like 4 cats that cost £500 a year in insurance alone or £50 sacks of cat biscuits every 2 months (and one cat cost £500 just to buy - nearly as much as my first 3 pins all together!)

But now that we've reached cat-pinball equilibrium it means I have to accept more cats if I want more pinballs o_O

Don't get me wrong, I do love the cats. But my argument that the cats cost way more than pinballs simply does not compute in some minds.
